Every mattress purchase comes with a 120-night in-home sleep trial, starting from your delivery date.

Buying a mattress is a big decision, and we take it seriously. At The Drift, every mattress we carry has been vetted in our showroom by real humans β€” because we believe you should feel confident in what you bring home. That said, sleep is personal, and sometimes a mattress that felt great in the store just doesn't click the way you'd hoped. That's exactly why we built this policy.

Exchanges

Not in love with your mattress? Before considering a return, we'd love to help you find something that works better. Exchanging your mattress is easy, free of any return or exchange fee, and often the fastest path to a great night's sleep.

Exchanges are available on all wholesale mattresses sold at The Drift. The same 30-night break-in period applies β€” we ask that you sleep on your mattress for at least 30 nights before initiating an exchange, and exchanges must be requested within your 120-night trial window. Each purchase is eligible for one exchange.

Same Model, Different Firmness

If you love your mattress but the firmness just isn't working for you, we can exchange it for the same model in a different firmness level β€” completely free. No fees, no price difference to worry about.

Exchange for a Different Mattress

If you'd like to try a completely different mattress, we can make that happen too β€” again, with no return or exchange fee. We'll coordinate the pickup of your original mattress at no charge and get your new selection on its way.

If your new mattress is at a higher price point than your original purchase, you'll simply cover the difference. If your new selection is less expensive, we'll refund the difference to your original payment method.

Pricing & Promotions

Please Note

Pricing is locked at the time of your original purchase. Promotional discounts β€” including in-store discounts, sale pricing, or any other offers β€” cannot be applied to an exchange, regardless of what promotions may be active at the time of your request.

Similarly, if the price of your original mattress has changed since your purchase β€” whether up or down β€” we are unable to retroactively adjust your original transaction. The price you paid is the price on record.


Comfort Exchanges

Not feeling the firmness of your new mattress? Before you consider a return, there's a good chance we can dial in the perfect feel β€” without you needing to start over. Select mattresses in our lineup feature a removable comfort system: the top layers of the bed zip right off and can be swapped for a different feel.

If you find your mattress is too firm, too soft, or just not quite right, a one-time complimentary comfort exchange lets you trade your comfort layer for a different firmness option. It's the easiest path to getting your sleep exactly right.

Please note that comfort exchanges are a one-time option. In-home installation is not available for comfort system exchanges β€” the new layer ships directly to you and is designed to be set up easily on your own.


Mattress Returns

If, after your break-in period, you've decided that your mattress simply isn't the right fit β€” we get it. Returning your mattress is straightforward, and we'll take care of everything.

The 30-Night Break-In Period

Please Read Before Initiating a Return

Your body needs time to adjust to a new sleep surface β€” and your mattress needs time to fully decompress and recover from being roll-packed for shipping. This adjustment period typically lasts two to four weeks. Many customers who initially find their mattress "too firm" discover it becomes noticeably more comfortable after the break-in period.

For this reason, we ask that every customer sleeps on their mattress for a minimum of 30 nights before initiating a return. Returns requested before 30 nights cannot be accepted.

Return Eligibility

To be eligible for a return, your mattress must meet the following conditions:

Returns must be initiated no later than 120 nights from your original delivery date.

After 30 nights of use

Your mattress must have been slept on for at least 30 nights prior to your return request.

Undamaged condition

The mattress must be free from physical damage. Normal use and light wear are not a concern.

How Returns Work

Once your return is approved, we'll coordinate everything. We'll schedule a pickup at a time that's convenient for you, and handle mattress removal and donation or recycling on your behalf β€” you won't need to lift a finger.

$99 Return Fee A standard $99 return processing fee applies to all mattress returns, deducted from your refund.

The $99 return fee covers pickup logistics and responsible mattress disposal or donation, and is consistent with standard practice across the mattress industry. Your remaining refund will be issued to your original payment method within 5-7 business days of pickup.

This return policy applies to all mattresses sold at The Drift, with the exception of affiliate brand products listed below.


Accessories & Bedding

For accessories β€” including toppers, pillows, and mattress protectors β€” we offer a free 30-day return window from your delivery date. No fee, no hassle.

To initiate an accessory return, simply reach out to our team within 30 days of delivery and we'll provide a prepaid return label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your 120-night trial begins on your delivery date, not your purchase date. If you ordered in-store and scheduled delivery for a later date, the clock starts when the mattress arrives at your home.
If you have a Helix Elite or Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite (or LX Elite), we'd strongly recommend a comfort exchange first. It's free, quick, and often does the trick. Many customers find the firmness issue resolves entirely once they receive a softer comfort system. You can still choose to return the mattress outright if you prefer β€” the choice is yours. For all other mattresses, please reach out and our team can help you troubleshoot before initiating a return.
There are two reasons. First, mattresses shipped in a roll-pack need time to fully decompress and reach their true feel β€” sometimes up to two weeks. Second, your body naturally takes time to adjust to a new sleep surface, especially if you're switching from a very different firmness or support style. We've found that the majority of customers who want to return in the first few weeks feel very differently after giving it the full 30 nights. We want to make sure your decision to return (or keep!) is based on what the mattress truly feels like.
No β€” your 120-night trial window runs from your original delivery date and does not reset after a comfort exchange. If you do a comfort exchange, your remaining trial time continues from where it left off. We recommend initiating a comfort exchange as early in your trial period as possible so you have ample time to evaluate your new feel.
Your new comfort system will ship directly to your door via FedEx or UPS β€” free of charge. The comfort layer zips on and off easily, and you'll be able to do the swap yourself without any tools or assistance. We'll include simple instructions with your shipment.
We work with our logistics partners to donate returned mattresses where possible, or recycle them responsibly when they can't be donated. We don't resell returned mattresses.
Yes β€” our 120-night sleep trial and all return and exchange policies apply equally to in-store and online purchases. There's no difference in coverage or terms based on where you bought.
For Nectar, DreamCloud, and Nest Bedding purchases, returns and exchanges are managed entirely by those brands. Please contact Nectar, DreamCloud, or Nest Bedding directly using the information provided at the time of your purchase. Our team can help connect you if you have trouble locating the right contact.
Unfortunately, mattress returns are not available for deliveries to Hawaii or Alaska at this time. We're working on expanding our return logistics to these areas. If you have questions or concerns before purchasing, please reach out to our team β€” we're happy to discuss your options.
